New game to launch on Nintendo Switch – Polygon
Two players will join the fray in the upcoming sequel to Nintendo’s popular platformer, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Nintendo announced on Thursday.
A new game called Yoshi’s Story is a free-to-play title, and players will be able to take on Yoshi as he attempts to find his lost love and reunite with her after years apart.
The game, which will launch exclusively on Nintendo’s new Switch system, will be available in both Japan and the US on March 6, and will cost $29.99.
Yoshi’s Tale, which launched on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year, is currently the most popular Yoshi game in the Nintendo eShop.
It launched on Wii U in 2018, and was ported to PC and Xbox One later this year.
Nintendo did not provide a release date for Yoshi’s story, but said the game will be playable “anywhere on the Switch.”
“This time around, we’re making Yoshi’s tale the biggest Yoshi game ever,” a Nintendo spokesperson told Polygon.
“But unlike previous Yoshi games, this one is more than just a simple retelling of the legend, with a whole lot of new things going on behind the scenes.”
Yoshi’s Story has received strong reviews from both critics and players, and the new game has received nearly three times as many downloads as the Wii U’s Yoshi’s Wooly World, the first game in Yoshi’s Quest series.
The new game will also feature a number of new characters, including a trio of adorable, three-eyed rabbits, a turtle, and a dinosaur.
It will also be the first Yoshi game to feature online multiplayer, with Yoshi and his friends able to play together in local multiplayer.
The Yoshi’s Adventure series, which was a keystay on Nintendo systems for years, has recently been on the decline, with the company shutting down its Yoshi’s Island franchise in 2019.
Yoshi and the other characters who have made up the series have been a mainstay on consoles for a while now, with titles like Yoshi’s New Island and Yoshi’s Ultra Smash being notable departures from the franchise.
